This weekend, Isabelle Zhou and I hosted a curated "Bouquets & Brunch" event for early stage female founders. We gathered a group of female founders building across the board: construction tech, fintech, space tech, ideating post-ML PhD, and from Harvard Business School's Rock Fellow new venture program for new founders.Crafting communities in SF to support and empower female entrepreneurs/makers/creators is greatly inspiring, and am so grateful to be able to do so alongside mentors and friends. Thanks for everyone who came (+ more untagged in stealth building mode!) My undergrad research centered on bundling and unbundling, which is the question of "why do people prefer and extract *additional* value from buying pre-selected product groupings vs a la carte?"I still find it fascinating how buyers deviate from "rational" choices due to perceived wastage (loss aversion) or combinatorial value. As Chris Dixon writes, the value prop of bundling is particularly strong for "taste-based goods" like media and far less so for commoditized goods. Bundling and unbundling has been on my mind again recently. When thinking about the new generation of AI-native startups: what will the shape or "thickness" of bundles look like? Does customizability matter? Whether startups angle toward all encompassing suite-of-tools vs wedge/modular products depends greatly on the nature of end-user. It's funny how ideas from the past re-emerge and are augmented by new information. Perhaps it's due time to refresh my own thesis on bundling in startups!Sharing this piece on bundling by Shishir Mehrotra that was written a while ago but still feels relevant.

I tend to shy away from the typical business book recommendations for investors and instead seek out books that focus on craft, beauty and persistence. Many parallels exist between artistry and entrepreneurship: Ideation. Creation. Distribution. Refinement. Tenacity... the list goes on.One book I enjoyed recently was Miyazaki's compilations of essays, sketches and musings, 'Starting Point', about the first 20 years of his career and planting the seeds for a new generation of animation: where nostalgia, worldbuilding and technology meet. My favorite quote from the book -"To endure something is obviously exhausting and agonizing. But at the same time, you must continue to hold what you regard as important close to your heart and nurture it...Should you ever relinquish what you truly hold dear, the only path left to you will be that of a pencil pusher."Tenacity and commitment are two topics I've been mulling over the past few years. For both creativity and entrepreneurship: one must continuously choose one's craft through cycles of disenchantment and drudgery to make truly elegant and valuable product. As Patrick Collison from Stripe once said, "a lot of the most successful companies are those that are distinguished by the extent to which they exhibit appreciation for, and skill in, realizing craft and beauty."Costanoa Ventures#entrepreneurship / #books / #bookrecommendations / #startupsPicture from Layout,Kiki's Delivery Service(1989),© 1989 Eiko Kadono - Studio Ghibli

So grateful for the energizing attendance last night at Costanoa Ventures Women in Tech happy hour. Everyone brought authenticity, open mindedness, and a willingness to learn. In the forward momentum of life it's rare to find the right people, the right resonance. Knowing that, we hope to continue to carve space and time to nurture new and unexpected connections. Happy Women's History Month! 🌹 Thankful for the best team for making this possible: Katy, Taylor, Michelle, Pamela and Ren
