Firefighters have rushed to a fire at the historic Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin city centre.

Staff and guests were evacuated from the city centre venue during the incident on Wednesday morning.

Gardai and multiple units from the Dublin Fire Brigade responded to the scene.

An ambulance also arrived outside the building.

The firefighters used an aerial ladder from one truck to access the roof of the six-storey building.

A witness told RTÉ he saw smoke coming from one of the upper bedroom windows.

Members of DFB accessed the roof of the building close to where smoke was seen coming from a window.

Dublin Fire Brigade said in a post on X: ‘Firefighters were called to a fire in a premises on St Stephen’s Green at 1038 this morning

‘The fire is under control with an effective evacuation helping enormously Six fire engines including a turntable ladder and emergency tender remain on scene.’

Gardai confirmed the fire was reported shortly before 11am.

A spokesman said no injuries had been reported.

The luxury five-star hotel is located on St Stephen’s Green near Leinster House and several Government departments.

Local traffic diversions are in place.
