Saint Joseph’s University’s Beta Gamma Sigma chapter, Business Honor Society, inducted Jessica Donahue, a Pittston resident, into its honor society during a ceremony on May 3.

Dean’s List-

Stephanie Kudley, daughter of Gene and Mary Kay Kudey, Pittston, has achieved a 4.0 grade point average for the 2008/2009 school year at Penn State Worthington Scranton. This year she was the recipient of the Evan Pugh Scholar Award, which is presented to juniors and seniors whose academic achievement places them in the top 0.5 portion of their class. Stephanie also received recognition for having the highest GPA of a third year student at this campus. In years past, she has also been recognized for having the highest GPA of a second year student and also demonstrating excellence in creative writing. Stephanie is ambitiously working towards a degree in Human Development and Family Studies and will be a senior in the fall.

Sara E. Alfano of Duryea, has been named to Bucknell’s Dean’s List for the spring semester. She is the daughter of Cataldo and Ann Alfano of Duryea, and a 2006 graduate of Scranton Preparatory School, Scranton, PA.

Alyssa Getz from Pittston, was recently recognized on the Dean’s List from East Stroudsburg University with a 4.0 Alyssa is in her senior year majoring in elementary and special education. She is the daughter of Lynne Getz, of Pittston and Larry Getz of Cherry Hill, N.J. She also has a brother, Kyle, a senior at Pittston Area.

Jennifer Miller of Avoca was recently recognized on the Dean’s List from East Stroudsburg University with a 3.6. Jennifer is in her senior year, majoring in both elementary and special education. She is the daughter of Donald and Maureen Miller of Avoca. She also has a brother, Chris, a sophom*ore at LCCC, and Kelly, a junior at Pittston Area.

Gary Koncewicz, son of David and Lisa Huntz, West Wyoming, is on the Dean’s list for Misericordia University for the spring semester. Gary is a sophom*ore in the Physical Therapy program at Misericordia, majoring in Health Care Management.
Inducted-
The University of Scranton inducted new members of Beta Beta Beta, the National Honor Society for Biology, at a ceremony held recently on campus. Scranton’s chapter, established in 1994, is one of 372 chapters nationwide. The following local University of Scranton students were inducted:

Victoria Lombardo of Exeter and Michael Baloga of Exeter.
Recent Grad-

Heidi VanLeuven of Pittston graduated with honors on May 9 from the Jackson Averitt College of Graduate Studies and Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art at George Southern University receiving her Masters degree in Fine Arts.
While at Georgia Southern, Heidi was a teaching assistant in Art History and Studio Art Classes. She was the author of the Arts Department Manual and served as Coordinator of Arts Fest’09 – a festival of art and music attracting over 4000 guests.
She served as Art Representative in the Graduate Student Organization Board and was a member of the Averitt Center Visual Arts Committee and also a member of the Organization of Independent Artists in New York City, having solo shows in New York City and various cities in Georgia.
Her exit show and thesis entitled: “Exploring the Contexts of Ubiquitous Structures” will be published later this month and will be available permanently online through the GSU Zach Henderson Library.
Bucknell University conferred nearly 900 bachelor’s and master’s degrees during commencement ceremonies May 17. Bret J. Sokirka, son of Joseph and Mary Sokirka of Wyoming and a 2005 graduate of Wyoming Area H S, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.

Jonathan Lawrence of West Pittston received a Bachelor of Science degree in Management during the commencement ceremony at Widener University on May 16.
